Does Birth Control Help Clear Acne?

im 18 i've had bad acne sense i was 13. it comes n goes but when it comes its really really bad. i've tried proactive but it just dries up my skin, gets it all red n it starts pealing. i also tried clean n' clear, neutrogena, ext...nothing works!! so i was wondering if i start taking birth control pills, will that help clear up my acne? which birth control works best? will it mess up my hormones later in life? Thank You =)

Birth control will bring down your acne a considerable amount because it keeps you from having a period as often which is when most women have acne. Yaz is great.

oh please honey, dont get put on birth control for acne! see a derm. birth control has ruined my skin! let me tell you why... before birth control, i had flawless skin, never had a problem with acne, sure i got the occasional pimple when my period rolled around, but never anything more. i had combination skin, not dry not oily, which is why i didnt have a problem with acne. started birth control february 06 for just that reason - birth control. had heard that it cleared acne, but since i didnt have an acne problem, i didnt think about the consequences of coming off bc. most ppl say when their acne clears up on bc, after coming off - it goes back to their "normal" acne prone skin. seeing as i had clear skin before, i just assumed i would have clear skin after. wrong! got off bc a year later(february 07), and i am still freaking out about my skin! its become very very oily, which is why i am having such a problem with acne right now. and im not talking about a bump or two either! i think its really upsetting to me b/c of the fact that i had great skin before and now, its a mess! going on 8 months now, and im still battling acne. please please please - if you're not planning on staying bc for a long time, see a derm before making your decision! bc is only a temporary fix for acne. sorry its so long, but i felt the need to explain my birthcontrol/acne horror story! good luck to you girl!there are different kinds of birth control. some types actuall make acne worse, but some (ithink it is orthotrycylene) make it better because it is actually mixed with and anti- biotic.

this may sound very weird but it really works!! i've tried it, my friends tried it, and ex bf too! what you do is boil water with 2 bags of green tea, once its done. you have to place it on the floor so you could bend down place your face so the steam will go directly on your face (make sure to cover your head over the pot with a towel, so the steam goes directly on your face...) stay as long; be careful it might be too hott!! after, wash your face with warm water to open pores, wash with antibacterial bar soap, and cleanse with cold water to close the pores. preferably before bed....your face will feel fresh!! and do it on a nightly basis! don't miss a day...proactiv doesn't work on everyone! i don't suggest using it cuz once you're on it, you can't stop, if you do stop ur acne eventually comes back! =P also checkout www.aloette.com they have something like proactiv but it's all natural!! so theres no side effects, maybe try that!i have their facial mist (for moisture) and it works best for my dry skin!!btw, i'm not sure about control pills...good luck!
